Sleepagotchi CEO Kenny Wood explains how the platform uses on-device AI agents to deliver personalized wellness insights, why the team abandoned a data marketplace model, and how the SLEEP token fits into the platform's economy.
Summary
- Sleepagotchi processes all health data directly on the user's device using a multi-agent AI system, keeping biometric information private and off cloud servers.
- The platform coordinates four specialized agents covering sleep, wellness, meal planning, and shopping, which share state data locally in real time.
- The SLEEP token gates premium AI features and powers staking and marketplace activity, while basic health coaching remains free.
- Sleepagotchi has raised $6.5 million, attracted over 2 million users, and secured partnerships with Solana, Soneium, and Square Enix.
Wearable devices have made most people significantly more health-conscious. Tracking steps, sleep duration, and heart rate has become routine. Artificial intelligence has made it possible to analyze thousands of data points in seconds, turning raw biometric signals into actionable daily guidance.
Sleepagotchi started as a casual mobile game that rewarded players with digital collectibles for maintaining consistent sleep schedules. The team quickly realized that poor sleep sits at the root of most health and mood problems, and expanded the product into a full wellness application.
"Sleep affects everything. If a user is not sleeping well, it shows up in their mood, their energy, their overall health," CEO Kenny Wood said. "We took the sleep monitoring system from the game and expanded it into a health application. It pulls data from wearables and from the phone itself, processes it locally, and generates personalized insights using AI."
How the on-device system works
Rather than routing personal health data to an external server, Sleepagotchi runs a decentralized multi-agent system directly on the user's device. Four specialized agents handle distinct aspects of daily wellness: a sleep coach, a wellness assistant, a meal planner, and a shopping agent. These agents exchange state information with each other locally and in real time.
The sleep coach analyzes rest patterns and passes its findings to the wellness assistant. If the wellness assistant detects that a user feels fatigued despite adequate sleep duration, the system checks for nutritional gaps. It can recommend specific foods or supplements to address deficiencies and pass those suggestions to the meal planner, which produces a shopping list. The shopping agent can then complete the purchase automatically within a user-defined budget.
"All of the data is processed within the phone," Wood said. "The data as a whole stays on the device."
Why the team abandoned a data marketplace
The original product roadmap included an on-chain marketplace where users could sell their health data to research firms. The team dropped that model after concluding it was unworkable.
"We found that selling personal health data was not feasible and raised significant legal questions," Wood explained. "Wearable manufacturers also prohibit commercial data sales in their terms of service."
The decision to process everything locally rather than storing data on-chain represents a significant departure from the standard industry approach, where sensitive tracking data is typically held on corporate cloud servers.
The role of the SLEEP token
Running complex AI models requires substantial processing capacity. Sleepagotchi addresses this by offering basic health coaching to all users at no cost, while gating advanced queries behind the platform's native token.
Once a user exhausts their daily baseline of free AI interactions, premium features require payment in SLEEP tokens. The structure creates a natural computational boundary that protects the network from unsustainable resource demand.
"The user pays with the SLEEP token for additional credits to access further AI analysis of their health data," Wood said. "The AI infrastructure can handle a large volume of users, so the blockchain focuses on handling transactions and staking rather than the computation itself."
Additional revenue streams built into the ecosystem include premium subscriptions for advanced tracking, marketplace listing fees for external business partners, and affiliate commerce revenue generated when the shopping agent processes automated product recommendations.
Where the platform stands
Sleepagotchi has raised $6.5 million from investors including 6th Man Ventures, Collab+Currency, Inception, Sfermion, 1kx, Alliance, Signum Capital, and GSR. During a three-week beta period, the platform attracted more than 2 million users and generated over $100,000 in revenue.
The platform currently integrates with WHOOP, Oura, Apple Watch, Cudis, and Pulse. On the Web3 side, partnerships include Solana, Soneium, Bonk, MOOAR, and Pixels, alongside an integration with gaming company Square Enix.
