Metis Launches Hyperion For On-Chain AI Integration

Metis has launched Hyperion, the world’s first Layer 2 blockchain platform explicitly designed for on-chain AI inference, in collaboration with LazAI and Alith SDK. This marks an important shift toward blockchain-native AI execution.

The platform was developed using the Metis SDK, an open-source modular framework. LazAI contributed the Alith AI agent framework to ensure blockchain compatibility using Rust-based inference. Metis communicated the launch through its official blog and GitHub.

Hyperion’s launch does not cite specific funding but invites developers to innovate on its platform. The initiative strategically positions Metis as a modular platform, potentially transforming industry-specific applications, including DeFi operations powered by natural language queries.

Technological outcomes are expected to expand developer tools and feature sets, impacting Metis and Ethereum as the host Layer 1. With testnet status, the focus is on unique developer features and expansion, with no immediate effect on total value locked.

Hyperion is the first Layer 2 with native on-chain LLM execution, a pioneering effort not seen in previous blockchain initiatives. Earlier EVM Layer 2 rollups provided scalability but lacked centralized AI features.
